Desert Life

Neglected desert
Was not always
Scrap land
Thirsty land

Once the land
Bore fruit

An orchard
Perhaps

A cornucopia
Of possibility
Shredded by
Unkindness
By greed

Turned soil unseeded
too long turns
fallow to barren
The winds of time
lay claim to life.
Nothing can grow
here at all

The skin that holds me in
Is bearing fruit again
This morning's gentle rain
reviving joy from pain
Not barren at all
The tender touch
of mother nature
Reclaiming her planet

June 1, 2013.
